This category is for applicants with professional work experience in Canada. It facilitates temporary foreign workers and foreign graduates with qualifying Canadian work experience.
The applicant must have at least ONE year of skilled work experience in Canada in the last three years before applying as indicated below:
- Full-time at one job: 30 hours/week for 12 months = 1 year full-time (1,560 hours), or
- Equal amount in part-time work: for example, 15 hours/week for 24 months = 1-year full time (1,560 hours)
You can work as many part-time jobs as you need to meet this requirement.
Ensure the applicant has gained work experience by working in Canada while under temporary resident status with authorization to work.
Though there are no education requirements under the CEC, other factors can help increase your CRS.
If you went to school in Canada, you could get points for a certificate, diploma, or degree from a Canadian secondary institution (high school) or post-secondary institution. Alternatively, if you have foreign education, you can earn points for completed foreign education; however, you require an Education Credential Assessment (ECA).
Under language ability, the applicant must meet the minimum language level as follows:
- Canadian Language Benchmark 7 for NOC 0 or A jobs, or
- Canadian Language Benchmark 5 for NOC B jobs.
The language tests are valid for two years after the test result and must be valid on the day of the application before filing for permanent residence.
